ORCL: Oracle Completes $8.5 Billion Acquisition

Oracle Completes $8.5 Billion Acquisition

On April 29, 2008 Oracle completed its $8.5 billion dollar acquisition of BEA Systems. This was the largest takeover for Oracle since it purchased PeopleSoft for $11.1 billion in 2005. Over the past 3 years Oracle has spent over $25 billion on acquisitions in an attempt to better position themselves in the software industry. The BEA Systems acquisition is no exception: BEA is a leader in middleware, one of Oracle's weaker product segments.
