Currently most of the energy is and will be produced by burning coal, oil or gas, which all produce carbon dioxide. Nuclear power and alternative sources of energy cannot replace the fossil fuels for now. Developed countries are thus likely to buy carbon emissions credits to sustain their current energy demands.
