edit A lot of core issues need to be resolved

For all its momentum, there are still some core issues iPhone owners want to have resolved - and first among them is 3G capability. According to the survey, that's the number one feature iPhone owners want integrated into the next generation of the iPhone (19%) - even more so than third-party software (18%), GPS functionality (15%) or E-mail integration (10%).

The same holds true among respondents who say they are interested in but haven't yet purchased an iPhone. One-in-four say they are holding out to wait for the next generation iPhone (14%) or for 3G network compatibility (11%).

edit Lack of tactile keyboard

The iPhone's lack of a tactile keyboard, a major feature of its design which allows for the large touchscreen, could end up being a problem for users who must input a lot of text, such as the business users, a market dominated by the BlackBerry.

edit Limited scope

The iPhone is limited to web applications and doesn't have an API* ** to extend it. The organizations requiring custom applications will prefer more extensible mobile platforms (e.g: J2ME, SymbianOS, PalmOS, Linux, Android, Windows Mobile)

edit Job's totalitarian sentiments hinder the growth of iPhone

Steve Jobs' tendency to enforce tight control over Apple's products and their accompanying media or software could hinder the iPhone's adoption and provide bad publicity for the product.

*(Application programming interface) On October 17th, 2007, Steve Jobs announced that a Software Developer's Kit (SDK) would be made available for the iPhone/iPod Touch in February 2008[1]. The SDK makes "official" third party applications possible.

**(Application programming interface)The phone has successfully been unlocked with the succession of new firmware patches. This allows users to develop any native application of their doing. Jailbreakme.com and http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/ for more info
