This is a strong overview of a very important and controversial topic in international finance. As an emerging market, China is of tremendous import - no dispute there. However, Western corporations need to do a better job of highlighting the necessity of doing business in China as a means of 'empowering' human rights. In other words, if Google, Yahoo etc. did not engage China or more specifically boycotted the territory due to repressive laws, how exactly would this benefit the Chinese people? Many academics and international executives no longer see the issue as 'a comply or not to comply' situation with respect to Chinese law. Basically, the argument is engagement drives incremental improvement with regards to Chinese internet censorship. In my opinion, this article could benefit from an expanded discussion of Google's claim that abandoning China would do more harm than good. Otherwise the overview is great.
