please ignore me if i'm incorrect, but this doesn't make sense to me: "Annual installations worldwide were just under 1,500 MW in 2005 (which, given solar panel efficiencies of any where from 10-30%, really represents about 300 MW of capacity) for sales of just under $10 billion." efficiency of solar modules is based on conversion of available sunlight to electricity. modules rated at 165 watts put out 165 watts which is i assume "10-30%" of available light energy. 1500MW = 1500MW...

  • PV panel manufacturing is heavily influenced by the availability and price of silicon
  • What about solar thermal generation? Plants are cheaper to build and maintain. Several new plants are now operating.
  • Another copmany: Evergreen Solar (ESLR). Small company, but with a novel PV manufacturing technique.
  • Government tax breaks and other subsidies could have a big impact on home PV installation, in existing homes or new construction. California probably would be leading the way here. So solar industry may be linked to the home building industry.
  • PowerShares has an ETF for renewable energy in general (PBW I think).

Are they public? If so, what is their ticker and where is Ausra listed? Can't find a listing for them...
