The Uruguayan Peso is the currency is Uruguayan Peso which has held this name since the European settlement of Uruguay.The Peso is generally shown locally with a $ sign which may confuse people into thinking it is USD, however, when dealing in USD they will clearly state this. Some transactions in Uruguay are done on an official level in USD such as real estate purchases. They are only rarely paid for in Peso.
