Delivery Dates

Electricity futures are delivered every year in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December (all months).[1]

Contract Specifications

Contract Size

One Electricity futures contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange is 40 megawatt hours (Mwh) per peak day (between 19 and 23 days) depending on the month. Depending on the number of peak days in the month, the number of megawatt hours will vary (between 760 Mwh and 920 Mwh)..[1]

Tick Value

$0.05 per Mwh.[1]

Daily Price Limit

No price limits.[1]

Trading Hours

  • On the CME Globex electronic platform: 6:00 PM Sundays through 5:15 PM Fridays, with a 45-minute break each day between 5:15 PM and 6:00 PM, New York Time.[1]

Last Trading Day

One business day before the last peak day of the month.[1]

Deliverable Grades

Electric energy delivered shall be in the form of three phase current alternating at a nominal frequency of 60 hertz.[1]
