Administrative Markup
Administrative markup is Wiki markup for functionality that most contributors won't have to use. Still, if you are interested, please feel free to use these and help us by making Wikinvest better organized, more comprehensive, and easier to use.
[edit] Reverts
If you mess up an article and want to restore a previous version of it, you can revert the article by going to History and clicking Revert.
Please: in most situations, do not revert someone else's edits unless it is vandalism. Instead, please just delete their additions. This is because when someone's work is reverted, they are "punished" and actively lose Wikinvest contributor points.
[edit] Adding a New Company
You can only add a new company/stock if you are an administrator. If you aren't an administrator, please request a new stock/company page here.
Please be very careful if you are adding a new company. Wikinvest only has company pages for those which can be publically traded in the US," so check to make sure that your proposed addition satisfies that requirement!
To add a new company:
- Create a new page called Stock:COMPANY NAME (TICKER) (modify the part in all capitals) by typing the above into the search box and hitting Go.
- Click the red link next to "be the first person to create _____" to edit the page.
- Type the following into the editor pane and hit save--a chart & the stock data will load:
{{new stock}}
[edit] Protecting and Deleting
If you are an administrator, you will have the ability to delete pages, and to protect them against further changes. Please use these powers judiciously and very sparingly, if at all.
- Deletions: If you delete an article, you will be asked to justify why. Be sure to have a very good reason.
- Protection: There are several different levels of protection. You can make a page editable either by registered users only, or by sysops only. You can also unlock page-moving capabilities. Again, be sure to have a very good reason for any/all of these actions--you will be asked to justify these changes.
