What is WikiData?

Ever wondered which pays the most for fuel or has the most planes? Or which has more restaurants? Or which refined the most barrels of oil last year? WikiData lets you explore a whole new universe of metrics that help compare key metrics for companies. We've already pulled data for over a thousand companies in over 20 industries, and there are thousands more coming over the next few months. But like the rest of Wikinvest, you can help make things better. Is an important metric missing for the company you follow? New 2007 data just released? Add it!

What data do you have so far?

WikiData already has data for over a thousand companies across dozens of industries, and this is just the beginning. See project page for a list of industries that already have data as well as industries that are in need of data.

Where does this data come from?

Overall, most of the data comes from public SEC filings such as company annual reports, 10-Ks, 10-Qs. You can click on any data point to see where that particular data point came from.

Can I add more data?

Yes! If you want to add new metrics for a company, click on the "Add metric" button at the bottom of the table. Or, if you just want to add additional years of data for an existing metric, just click to add it in the appropriate column.

How can I help make WikiData better?

Lots of ways! We need help defining key metrics for industries. Read more on the Wikidata project page

I have a lot of data to upload, do you have any bulk upload tools?

Great! Email wikidata [at] wikinvest.com requesting help with importing your data.

How come there isn’t data for all companies?

It takes some time to wade through tens of thousands of pages of SEC filings. Although we've already seeded data for over a thousand companies, we are still in the process of adding data for many more companies. But the best thing you can do to help us increase our coverage is get involved with the project.

How come some companies don’t have recent data from 2007 and 2008?

There's usually a delay between the end of the year and when companies publish their SEC filings, and the amount of the delay varies from company to company. Some companies don’t release 2007 data until well into 2008, and 2008 data until well into 2009.

What about quarterly data?

If you think having quarterly data would be useful, let us know. Although not all metrics are released at intervals shorter than a year, we've built WikiData to be able to support quarterly data (or monthly or weekly for that matter).
