Power User Tips |
If you find yourself constantly using Wikinvest, here are a few tips to help you improve your articles and navigate the site:
Article Template Tags - a new company article
index - an article about an index
ETF - an article about an ETF
def - a definition
guide - a personal finance article
future - a futures article
commodity - a commodity article
currency - a currency article
Energy Concepts - an energy concept article
concept - a concept article
Article tags alert readers to the fact that they're reading a certain type of article. For a few examples, see the Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 Assets page for a definition, the Bond Investing page for personal finance, the Wheat Futures page, and the IPhone concept page.
Article CategoriesIn most Wikinvest articles, you'll see things like the following:

or

Categories allow us to organize types of pages. For example, go to Commodities and at the bottom of the page you'll see all of the pages of category Commodity Prices. Similarly, go to Financial Services and you'll see all financial services companies and Indian Financial Services will display all Indian financial services companies.
To read more about categories, go to our Categories page. To see all of the categories on Wikinvest, go to the Categories list.
Creating Pages with WikiCharts, Bulls/Bears, and WikiDataIf you cannot find a company page, please feel free create it; however, only Wikinvest admins can create pages with WikiCharts, Bulls / Bears, and WikiData on them. If you create a page that should have these elements as part of your article, send us feedback with the name of the page you've created, and we will move it to the appropriate location.
Navigating Company PagesIf you know the stock ticker for your company, you can always navigate to the company by typing:
wikinvest.com/TICKER
or, for example,
wikinvest.com/GOOG
After you hit 'Enter' in the above example, Wikinvest will recognize that you're looking for the Google (GOOG) page and redirect you to that page.
Live Search in ArticlesSometimes, when you're writing an article, you want to know if there's another article you can link to. For example, if you're writing about a company's revenue, you might want to link to all of the times you mention revenue in your article.
Rather than go to the search bar to find the article, type [[ and then start typing the term you're looking for. If there's an existing Wikinvest article, our in-page live search will offer you suggestions so you can quickly and easily link to that Revenue page.
You should see something like:
Link AliasingAn internal link to Google [www.google.com An external link to Google]
There are two types of links on Wikinvest pages -- internal and external -- each with their own version of link aliasing. Internal link aliasing is especially useful as a way to insert links in your articles without haveing to change the forms of speech. External link aliasing is especially useful for citations.
The Easy Way to Make TablesMaking tables in wiki markup can be a pain. Instead, you should follow our guidelines for using Excel to make tables as explained on our Tables page.
Consolidated Footnotes

Citations are highly encouraged on Wikinvest. In fact, often, a citation will decide whether your edit is allowed to remain on the site.[1] Now, if you find yourself using the same citation over and over again, simply name it -- like above -- and then use the name of your footnote each time.[1] If you look to the bottom of this page, you'll see that all of the citations in this paragraph have been grouped together.[1]
For a more relevant example, check out the links to an external site below:
In 2007, American Ecology increased total revenues by 42% to $165.5 million compared to $116.8 million for 2006. [2] The 2007 revenues also represent more than double the revenues earned by the company in 2005. [2] That said, the company has seen a decline in its profit margin for three subsequent years starting from a high of 41.33% in 2004 and falling to a low of 11.72% in 2007.[2] This coincides with a three year increase in transportation costs for the company, starting at $22 million and 28.1% of revenue in 2005 and growing to $79 million and 47.9% of revenue in 2007.[2]
References in non-Neutral ArticlesWe require you to annotate your neutral articles liberally. In other sections, that's not the case, but you can certainly still add citations to your articles. If you have a great idea for Bulls / Bears, back up your article by citing your sources, and then added <references /> to the bottom of your Bulls / Bears contribution.
Embedding Price ChartsTo embed a chart in your article, see the Embedding Price Charts in Articles section.
