Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative, a cooperative dedicated to improving the quality of life for its members through dependability and innovation, processes checks daily that need to be cleared in a timely manner, a task that consumes many hours a day manually processing payments. After considering other remittance solutions and attending a webinar about RemitXpress with Summit, Illinois Rural Electric Co-op recognized the ease-of-use and flexibility of RemitXpress and engaged Summit as its technology partner.

"We were delighted by Illinois Rural Electric Co-op's request for RemitXpress to improve and speed up their payment processing," said Ron Thill, President of Summit. "We were able to take their processing rules and incorporate them into RemitXpress so they didn't have to learn a new process, but now they have the advantage of a faster process that involves fewer trips to their bank. Illinois Rural Electric Co-op enjoys better funds availability and Summit has another happy client."

Summit worked with Illinois Rural Electric Co-op to ensure RemitXpress didn't disrupt members' payment habits. In fact, since RemitXpress offered the flexibility to fit their process, the Co-op didn't need to make any changes to members' bills, payment coupons, or processing rules. The Co-op's remittance processing functions, which previously required several hours, now only require one.

"We liked the fact that we could modify Summit's remittance solution to fit our current business processes, but also to build on the solution as we grow," explained Dennis Taylor, Illinois Rural Electric Cooperative Manager of Accounts & Benefits. "Although the large majority of our payments are made by check with a remittance stub, we do receive some payments by check only, multiple checks for one account or one check for multiple accounts. Summit's solution handles all the payment combinations without requiring us to sort all that out before using RemitXpress. Making our deposit remotely, online, is also a great benefit. RemitXpress has really exceeded our expectations. We are very satisfied with the business solution Summit's remittance product has provided us, and we look forward to continued use as our business needs evolve."

"Illinois Rural Electric Co-op is a great example of how electric co-ops, and any business processing their own payments, can benefit immediately from in-house remittance and remote deposit solutions," said Matt Moore, Payments Product Manager of Summit. "Electric co-ops are becoming more aware of the remittance solutions available to them, which offer co-ops the option to save valuable time, improve funds availability, and reduce payment errors. Now they have more time to focus on their core business of reliably providing energy to their members."
