Drybulk shipping comprises roughly 36% of seaborne trade.[1]


Capesize - Large vessels that cannot pass through canals and thus must travel around capes. Typically about 175,000 deadweight tons (dwt).

Panamax - Vessels designed to pass through the Panama Canal. Typically about 75,000 dwt.

Supramax - Smaller vessel, roughly 40,000-60,000 dwt.

Handysize - Smaller vessel, roughly 10,000-40,000 dwt.
