Shawmut Property Management, one of the fastest growing property and condo management companies in Massachusetts, has added 18 new employees to its maintenance division. The increase in hiring is partially due to seasonal demand, but also due to an overall expansion in business, particularly within the area of maintenance. Unlike most other property and condominium management companies, Shawmut has maintenance people (licensed plumbers, electricians, carpenters, contractors) on staff. "Having an in-house maintenance crew is much more cost effective than having to sub out the work to contractors that have a lot of other condos and companies to deal with," said Andrew Raynor, President and CEO of Shawmut. Reducing costs and going green

In certain areas, where people may be carrying bags, for example, this has the added benefit of turning the lights on for them, so they don't have to fumble in the dark for the light switch. It also avoids having to keep the lights on 24/7, which reduces the carbon footprint and electricity costs to the condo association.
