So what has happened over the past couple of years to increase the value of railroad stocks? This article gives a lot of negatives about the railroads, but do not balance them with any positive aspects of their business. What advantages do railroads have over other means of transportation? Since these companies carry a lot of debt, do interest rate changes have a big effect on the bottom line? I do think this article gives some very good information, especially the chart with the breakdown of companies.
