This is the average number of paying customers, or newspapers sold (through subscriptions and single copy sales) each weekday (Monday-Friday).
The higher average weekday circulation the better, as newspaper companies earn revenue on selling the actual newspaper, but more importantly sell advertisements- the more newspapers it sells, the more advertisements it can sell and thus the more revenue the company will generate.
