Income before taxes is the total value of a company's earnings before account for income tax
A company's income before taxes (alternately referred to as "pre-tax income") is reported quarterly on its income statement and is an important metric when analyzing a company's profitability. Because tax accounting techniques can become complex, and in many cases are not perfectly consistent from company to company, an analyst may use pre-tax income as a more stable measure of profitability.
Pre-tax income is also called Income Before Taxes (IBT) and Net Income Before Taxes (NIBT).
