Intermodal revenue refers to the revenue a company earns from freight transported via several different modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck), usually in a shipping container so that the freight doesn't require any handling when changing modes. Because train transport is typically cheaper than truck transport, companies can save money by Transporting cargo by truck to a train depot, then by train to a station near a destination, and then by truck to the destination instead of shipping it by truck the entire way.
