Phase II is the step after Phase I in the Drug pipeline. Unlike Phase I, Phase II trials are focused on the efficacy of the drug, not necessarily the safety. Most drugs that end as failures are proven to be ineffective in Phase II and their development is subsequently terminated. Investors are interested about drugs in Phase II because these are the drugs that will hopefully be developed into blockbuster hits for the drug company.
