This is the total number of drugs undergoing the third phase of clinical trials on humans.
Phase III follows Phase I and II in the Drug pipeline. Phase III testing focuses on providing further details on the proper dosages and effectiveness of a drug. Phase III trials typically run longer and more comprehensive than Phase I and II and as a result are generally more expensive and difficult to operate. Following successful Phase III trials, the drug will usually be submitted for approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or other regulatory agency depending on the country.
