Rentable Square Feet
Rentable square feet is the total number of square feet that a company, often a real estate investment trust, has available for lease. This is the sum of usable square feet, the square footage that is to be rented exclusively by the tenant, and a portion of any common areas.
The difference between rentable square feet and usable square feet is generally between 10-15%. This number is important because revenue from rent is directly related to the quantity of square footage a company has available for rent.
