Revenue Ton Miles is a shipping / transportation industry metric, usually reported by train companies, measuring the amount of freight the company transports. It is calculated by multiplying the tonnage being transported by the number of miles it is transported. It includes only paid tonnage. In other words, only materials being transported for and being paid for by customers.
