Stock Spam

Wait, what?? An investing wiki? What about Pump & Dump spam?

That's one of the reasons we think an investing wiki is more powerful than a discussion board. When spammers post to discussion boards, there's no way for the community to delete the spam. When they post biased or inaccurate information on a discussion board, it can't be removed. Radical openness is a Wiki's strength over other platforms. Anyone can remove something that's inaccurate on our site - which means only the consensus perspective that almost everyone can agree to will remain.

  • We review changes on the site for stock spam. Do you see the recent changes flashing up on the blue bar on every page? You can see how people are changing the site as those changes occur, and if someone makes an edit that's not constructive or that runs afoul of the ground rules for the site, it takes just a few quick mouse clicks (by anyone in the community) to undo the change.
  • We divide our articles on companies into neutral, bull, and bear pages. That way, there's a place for contributors to promote their views on a stock, and a place that's "just the facts, ma'am." As a reader, you can read the neutral article to learn about the company, and read the bull and bear articles to see the best arguments on both sides. Then, make your own decision.
  • Our reputation system is a powerful tool for combating stock spam. As you edit Wikinvest, you'll build up reputation. This reputation is based on what you write on the site, but also on how other contributors react to your changes. Do other editors revert your changes quickly, suggesting they are low-quality? Or do your contributions endure? This data lets us identify trusted members of the community, as well as contributors who are new to Wikinvest and whose edits may require more scrutiny.
  • No microcaps: We only allow coverage of companies with at least $100 million in market capitalization, or which are listed on a major exchange (such as Nasdaq, AMEX, or NYSE). These companies tend to have greater liquidity and trading volume, and are less susceptible to stock price manipulation via pump and dump schemes.
  • As with anything you read on the internet, we encourage you to validate anything you read on Wikinvest with external sources before you make an investment decision. But we hope Wikinvest will be a useful place to start your investment research.
