12/28/10Testy Tuesday – Topping or Popping? (Wall Street Sector Selector)

Looks like we picked the wrong week to short FCX!  Copper hit a new all-time high in Shanghai this morning (as the guy who owns 90% of London’s closed for the holiday exchange supplies sold it to himself for more money than he did yesterday) and gold is back at $1,400 in the futures and that should give us a better entry on FCX puts than we expected for round 2 but Paul Krugman has me worried now that maybe commodity prices are just high because the World hasn’t got enough of them to...

12/13/10FCX (Samurai Trader)

Today was a strange day on the leadership list: the top 10 overall took a big hit, but the other 9 did quite well. FCX was about the only one in the top 10 not to get smacked. This is not a real breakout, as volume was not there, but it does appear that this may be the top of a new trading range, or it could be the high handle of a very short cup and handle pattern. In any rate, with volume declining this isn't going anywhere soon.

11/4/10Are Material Stocks Still A Buy (X, FCX) (Benzinga)

Materials have had an incredible run, from companies like Freeport McMoran (NYSE: FCX) to BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP) to Rio Tinto (NYSE: RIO). But are they still a buy? At first glance, these companies aren't trading at absurd valuations, and with easy monetary policy, these commodity runs can continue. FCX recently just doubled its dividend, and many analysts have said it could've doubled it again with no problem. Cash is flowing into these companies, and while no one can pick a top...

10/22/10Freeport-McMoran Falling Despite Flat Dollar (FCX) (Benzinga)

Freeport-McMoran (NYSE: FCX) has had a heck of a run - I should know, since I sold the stock at around $60 in the summertime. That ended up being the low. Instead of seeing a deterioration in the economy, and thereby weakness in commodity prices, we have witnessed better than expected economic numbers and a Fed induced run up in the price of commodity stocks. This has sent FCX from $60 to well over $90 since the middle of July - a tremendous gain. The stock trades inversely to the...

10/22/10Short FCX Says Steve Cortez (Benzinga)

Steve Cortez was just on the CNBC 'Fast Money Halftime Report' and he said to short commodities, and in particular Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (NYSE: FCX). Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. engages in the exploration, mining, and production of mineral resources. It primarily explores for copper, gold, molybdenum, silver, and cobalt deposits.

10/22/10Freeport McMoRan Shows Impressive Results (FCX) (Benzinga)

Results exceeded its estimate of $1.85 and the consensus estimate of $2.25. Variance from our estimate can be attributed to higher than anticipated copper sales and lower than...

The US Dollar index (.DXY)...
