10/22/10ENDING THE CASH ON THE SIDELINES MYTH (THE PRAGMATIC CAPITALIST)

We've highlighted the financial punditry's obsession with "cash on the sidelines" over the course of the last year in attempts to show that there is really no such thing.  The argument from an investment perspective is utterly absurd.  In general, investors like to think that their cash is some sort of fuel for the market [...]

7/7/10GENERATING HIGH CASH FLOWS & MANAGING RISK WITH INFLATION/DEFLATION (THE PRAGMATIC CAPITALIST)

In May of 2009 I said we were experiencing a "once in a generation opportunity in distressed debt and the corporate bond market in general."  Since then bond markets have universally experienced tremendous returns.  But as the equity market rally begins to fizzle and signs of recession appear on the horizon the inflation vs. [...]

11/25/09CASH ON THE SIDELINES? DON’T BELIEVE IT (THE PRAGMATIC CAPITALIST)

The following is a guest contribution from Comstock Partners: When making our bearish case for stocks we're amazed at how often our audience brings up the old "cash on the sidelines" argument as a reason to doubt that the current rally can tank.  We have been in this business for a while and don't remember a [...]

6/1/09USING CASH TO BOOST YOUR PORTFOLIO (THE PRAGMATIC CAPITALIST)

Morningstar is out with a recent piece on various new currency ETF's and a rather damning opinion of them.   I disagree with their conclusions.  I think currencies play a very important role in diversifying and reducing risk in ones portfolio. Buying and holding currencies is a losing game.  No fiat currency has ever withstood the test [...]

4/7/09Man detained and harassed at airport for carrying CASH! (Robert Weinstein Trading Blog)

Do we really need police officers swearing at people and treating citizens with disrespect?? This is how government officials handle people that refuse to surrender their rights. The same rights that so many have died for.  It may be "easier" for someone to just surrender their rights but how do you look a vet in the eye [...]

8/19/08Why the IPO Market Could Be Set to Explode (Contrarian Profits)

7/2/08Two Strong Buys in a Tough Market (Contrarian Profits)

So I had a flashback recently. (Not an acid flashback, mind you -- never tried the stuff -- but a market flashback). It was almost 10 years ago on the nose: August 1998. I was a wet-behind-the-ears college grad, and I’d just flown into Reno/Tahoe for a job interview with Commodity Resource [...]

6/23/08Anatomy of a Double Play (Contrarian Profits)

Last week was a thing of beauty for the bears. The major indexes were all hit hard, with the Dow and the S&P looking ready to explore new depths. The Dow also closed below 12,000 on Friday, an area of psychological importance. It’s tough out there for the bulls (except perhaps energy, [...]

5/27/08Peeking Behind the Curtain With Cash McDash (Contrarian Profits)

I was having a few beers with an old Agora colleague last week, someone outside of Taipan, and the subject of the Taipan Daily e-letter came up. Is that Cash McDash guy for real?" he asked me. I was taken aback by the question. "Of course he's real", I told him. "You think anyone [...]
