AK Steels operations consist of seven steelmaking and finishing plants located in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania that produce flat-rolled carbon steels, including premium quality coated, cold-rolled and hot-rolled products, and specialty stainless and electrical steels that are sold in slab, hot band, and sheet and strip form. The Companys operations also include AK Tube LLC, which further finishes flat-rolled carbon and stainless steel at two tube plants located in Ohio and Indiana into welded steel tubing used in the automotive, large truck and construction markets, and European trading companies that buy and sell steel and steel products. In addition, in 2004 AK Steel received a number of awards for safety and all of its steel facilities have been awarded certificates of registration under ISO 14001, a set of voluntary standards that enable an organization to control the impact of its activities, products or services on the environment. Audits to maintain these certifications are performed, and the Company continues to be ISO/TS16949:2002 and ISO 14001 certified.
