Receivables and credit risk are likewise higher during the second half of the calendar year as customers stock up on the companies' products for the holiday season. Additionally, in a platform transition period, sales of game console software products can be significantly affected by the timeliness of introduction of game console platforms by the manufacturers of those platforms, such as Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. The timing of hardware platform introduction is also often tied to holidays and is not within either company's control. If a hardware platform is released unexpectedly close to the holidays, this would result in a shortened holiday buying season and could negatively impact the sales of each company's products. Further, delays in development, licensor approvals, or manufacturing can also affect the timing of the release of products, causing the companies to miss key selling periods such as the calendar year end holiday buying season.
