Fourth Annual Actuate Open Source Survey Reports for North America, China, Germany, France and UK Available

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTU), the people behind BIRT™, today revealed that it has made available for download five detailed open source reports featuring the results from the fourth annual Actuate Open Source Survey. For the first time, the survey includes results from China, in addition to North America, the UK, Germany and France. It encompasses the responses of almost 1,500 respondents spanning several verticals and features an overview of attitudes and trends in open source growth and adoption for each region, making it one of the most comprehensive studies of its kind.

"With world leaders from the US, France and the UK among others, actively calling for the widespread use of open source, the 2009 Actuate Annual Open Source Survey continues to chart this movement’s increased adoption and acceptance,” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president marketing, Actuate Corporation. "In four years, the survey has become a benchmark for open source software industry watchers and a useful tool for those who need a primer on this fast emerging area.”

The 2009 Actuate Annual Open Source Survey, conducted in June of this year, (see press release titled ‘4th Actuate Annual Open Source Survey Includes China; Attracts a Record Number of Responses’, June 22, 2009) tracked the widespread adoption of open source software in key regions across the globe. Europe continues to capitalize on its early recognition of open source software’s potential for reducing IT’s cost of ownership and enabling rapid application delivery that allow organizations to hone their competitive edge.

Each regional report is downloadable at no cost at http://www.actuate.com/OpenSourceSurvey2009 and includes:

  • An in-depth look at open source adoption trends in the selected region (North America, China, the UK, France and Germany)
  • Highlights for the other four regions surveyed
  • Detailed charts and graphs

Encompassing a significant response rate in the Financial Services, Telecommunications and Manufacturing verticals as well as the Public Sector, across five important regions, the survey continues to be one of the broadest studies of its kind into open source software attitudes and practices. For report analyses and/or short articles highlighting ready-to-publish key findings from each report, journalists, analysts and editors are invited to liaise with Actuate’s press contact on this release.
