AMMD AT A GLANCE

Headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota, American Medical Systems Holdings, Inc. (AMMD) is a world leader in medical devices and procedures used to treat erectile dysfunction and other men and women's health problems. Other men s health problems include incontinence, benign prostate hyperplasia, and stricture. Women's health problems include menorrhagia (excessive bleeding during menstruation), incontinence, and other pelvic floor defects. Although not often life threatening, these disorders can significantly diminish one's quality of life and profoundly affect social relationships. In recent years, the number of people seeking treatment has increased markedly because of longer life expectancy, higher quality-of-life expectations, and greater awareness of new treatment alternatives. Physicians use American Medical Systems' products to reduce or eliminate the incapacitating effects of these diseases, often through minimally invasive surgery. In addition to sales in the U.S., the company sells its products in Canada, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. Based on product line, men's health products and women's health products contributed 64% and 36%, respectively, to total 2006 revenue. The majority of women's health sales are from products that treat stress incontinence. Geographically, the U.S. and international contributed 76% and 24%, respectively, to total 2006 revenue.
