
Arkansas Best Corporation (ABFS) is a diversified transportation company headquartered in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The company operates in two segments: Motor carrier and Other. The less-than-truckload (LTL) Motor carrier services are provided throughout North America, primarily by its subsidiary ABF Freight System, Inc. (ABF), along with other subsidiaries, such as ABF Freight System (B.C.), Ltd. ABF Freight System Canada, Ltd. ABF Cartage, Inc. Land-Marine Cargo, Inc. FreightValue, Inc. and ABF Freight System de Mexico, Inc. The LTL carriers pick up freight from different shippers and combine freight into a single truckload. Other services include two subsidiaries: an information technology (IT) subsidiary that offers IT services to the entire corporate family of Arkansas Best Corporation and another one that caters to the repair needs of its fleet. Intermodal transportation (the movement of freight over a combination of road and rail), which had been conducted through the Clipper Express Company and accounted for 6% of 2005 revenues, was sold in June 2006 and is reported as a discontinued operation on the company's financial statements.
