As a matter of fact, many americans are being overcharged in huge amounts for their internet bills, forking over 40-50$ a month for speeds of 1.5-2mpbs of internet, while countries like Romania(Yes, Romania) pay next to nothing for speeds easily in excess of 100mbps. America is going to catch up. It's a necessity to retain our stranglehold on innovation.
