BMW has joined the ranks of other auto makers such as Ford, Volkswagen, Honda, and other foreign car makers in building another plant in China in 2009. BMW will build a second plant in China in Shenyang, which will increase its capacity in China to 100,000 cars per year. BMW's stronghold in China as a well known luxury brand joined with its increase capacity will bring greater sales for BMW.
BMW is considering to invest more than $1 billion USD in Mexico to prepare local auto-parts companies to boost supplies to its U.S. plants.
By choosing to purchase abroad rather than exporting from Germany, BMW is lowering costs by more than $4.9 billion USD by 2012 as well as reducing the impact of currency swings on earnings.
