PAUL ANDERSON TO JOIN THE BP BOARD


The board of BP announced today that it has appointed Mr. Paul Anderson as a non-executive director of BP p.l.c. with effect from February 1, 2010. Mr. Anderson is a non-executive director of BAE Systems plc and of Spectra Energy Corp. He has just stood down as a non-executive director of BHP Billiton. Mr. Anderson served as Chief Executive of BHP and subsequently BHP Billiton between 1998 and 2002, and as a non-executive director of BHP Billiton from 2002 until 2010.



Notes to editors:


  • Mr. Anderson serves on the boards of BAE Systems and Spectra Energy, where he was Chairman until 2009. He has had substantial experience in the energy industry.  He was the CEO of three publicly-quoted energy companies between 1997 and 2007, namely BHP Billiton, Duke Energy and PanEnergy Corporation, where he worked between 1991 and 1997, latterly as Chairman and CEO. He has also served as a non-executive director on the boards of Kerr McGee, Baker Hughes and Fluor. Mr. Anderson studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle and received an MBA from Stanford.

APPRAISAL WELL CONFIRMS WESTERN EXTENSION OF
THE
KASKIDA FIELD IN THE
GULF OF MEXICO

confirmed that an appraisal well to test a western extension of the Kaskida field has confirmed oi
l in Lower Tertiary reservoirs five
 miles to the west of the
Kaskida 
discovery well. The well, drilled to a total depth of 32,500 feet, is located in 
Keathley Canyon block 291
in 5,675 feet of water and
 250 miles southwest of 
New Orleans

Appraisal activities will continue with a WATS
 (wide azimuth towed streamer)
 seismic acquisition survey in early 2010 and a well test in 2011.

This well builds on the success of our recent Tiber discovery to further strengthen BP's leading position in the emerging Lower Tertiary play in the US Gulf of Mexico

BP ANNOUNCES GIANT OIL DISCOVERY

IN THE GULF OF MEXICO


BP announced today a giant oil discovery at its Tiber Prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The well, located in Keathley Canyon block 102, approximately 250 miles (400 kilometres) south east of Houston, is in 4,132 feet (1,259 metres) of water. The Tiber well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 35,055 feet (10,685 metres) making it one of the deepest wells ever drilled by the oil and gas industry. The well found oil in multiple Lower Tertiary reservoirs. Appraisal will be required to determine the size and commerciality of the discovery.


"Tiber represents BP's second material discovery in the emerging Lower Tertiary play in the Gulf of Mexico, following our earlier Kaskida discovery," said Andy Inglis, chief executive, Exploration and Production. "These material discoveries together with our industry leading acreage position support the continuing growth of our deepwater Gulf of Mexico business into the second half of the next decade."


Tiber is operated by BP (NYSE:  BP), with a 62 per cent working interest with co-owners Petrobras (NYSE: PBR/PBRA, 20 per cent) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP, 18 per cent).

  • BP is the largest producer of oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico with net production of over 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. BP is progressing nine Gulf of Mexico projects: Atlantis Phase 2, Tubular Bells, Kodiak, Freedom, Kaskida, Isabela, Santa Cruz, Mad Dog tiebacks and Great White.

BP ANNOUNCES GIANT OIL DISCOVERY



IN THE GULF OF MEXICO







BP announced today a giant oil discovery at its Tiber Prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The well, located in Keathley Canyon block 102, approximately 250 miles (400 kilometres) south east of Houston, is in 4,132 feet (1,259 metres) of water. The Tiber well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 35,055 feet (10,685 metres) making it one of the deepest wells ever drilled by
the oil and gas industry. The well found oil in multiple Lower Tertiary reservoirs. Appraisal will be required to determine the size and commerciality of the discovery.







"Tiber represents BP's second material discovery in the emerging Lower Tertiary play in the Gulf of Mexico, following our earlier Kaskida discovery," said Andy Inglis, chief executive, Exploration and Production. "These material discoveries together with our industry leading acreage position support the continuing growth of our deepwater Gulf of Mexico business into the second half of the next decade."







Tiber is operated by BP (NYSE:  BP), with a 62 per cent working interest with co-owners Petrobras (NYSE: PBR/PBRA, 20 per cent) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP, 18 per cent).
