Unlike many of the other casinos, Boyd Gaming's target market of middle income individuals should decline in size and consumption for at least the next year as the economic attempts to rectify itself following the subprime mortgage fallout. While higher end casinos and premium priced goods are relatively insulated due to their clientele base- and thus unaffected from a general economic downturn, the current economic situation poses a magnified threat for casinos and institution that primarily rely on non-high roller gamblers and tourists.
