Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS), headquartered in San Jose, California, is a leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) software that chipmakers use to design their integrated circuit (IC) components. Its solutions are used for designing semiconductors, networking and telecommunications equipment, computer systems, consumer electronics, and a host of other electronics-based products. The company operates through three segments: Products, Maintenance, and Services. The Products segment (68.3% of 2007 revenue) develops and markets Cadence's software and hardware technologies, the Maintenance segment (23.9%) provides after sales support, and the Services segment (7.8%) offers training services to customers to use its solutions effectively. Geographically, the company's operations in North America, Japan, Europe, and the rest of Asia generated 49%, 21%, 18%, and 12% of 2007 revenue, respectively.

Cadence's major product lines include the Incisive Functional Verification Platform that verifies chip design parameters Open Verification Methodology (OVM) that creates a modular, reusable verification environment Encounter Digital IC Design Platform that provides tools and methodologies for implementing chips Virtuoso Custom IC Design Platform that helps in designing custom analog, radio frequency (RF), and mixed-signal ICs Virtuoso Passive Component Designer, a complete flow for the design, analysis and modeling of inductors, transformers and transmission lines and the Allegro System Interconnect Design Platform that enables collaborative design of interconnect across IC and prototype circuit board (PCB) domains. The Design for Manufacturing (DFM) operation provides complete or partial turnkey contract design to small/custom customers and involves consulting, project services, and/or complete turnkey services for verification acceleration and system emulation.
