Headquartered in California, Central Garden & Pet Company (CENT) produces, innovates, and markets pet, lawn, and garden products under leading brands. In fiscal 2007, the company generated 53% of net sales and 95% of operating income from the Pet Products segment. The Pet Products segment markets Four Paws, TFH, Nylabone, and Interpet pet supplies Wellmark insect control products and Kaytee bird and small animal food. The company also markets Oceanic and All-Glass Aquariums, and Kent Marine saltwater aquarium supplies. The lawn and garden segment generated the remaining 47% of net sales and 5% of operating income. The lawn and garden segment markets both proprietary and nonproprietary grass seeds weed, grass, ant, and other herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide products and decorative outdoor lifestyle and lighting products, including pottery, trellises, and other wood products and holiday lighting. The company markets grass seed under the Pennington, Max-Q, ProSelect, Tournament Quality, MasterTurf, Rebel, and Palmer's Pride brands bird feed under the Pennington brand lawn and garden control products under the Lilly Miller, IMAGE, AMDRO, Grant's, and Maxide brands and outdoor garden d cor and accessories under the Matthew's Four Seasons, Norcal and New England Pottery brands. The lawn and garden segment also produces private-label and value brands for certain retail customers, including Wal-Mart. The lawn and garden products are sold to mass merchants, home improvement specialty retailers, nurseries, and warehouse clubs. On January 3, 2007, the Board of Directors declared a special dividend in the form of two shares of Class A non-voting common stock for each share held of the company's common stock and Class B common stock. The dividend stock certificates were distributed on February 5, 2007 to the shareholders of record on January 14, 2007.
