Share-Based Payments

We adopted FAS 123(R), Share-Based Payment, on January 1, 2006, under the modified-prospective approach which requires us to recognize employee compensation cost related to our stock option grants in the same line items as cash compensation for all options granted after the date of adoption as well as for any options that were unvested at adoption. Under the modified-prospective approach, no stock option expense attributable to these options is reflected in the financial statements for years prior to adoption. The amounts recorded as share-based payments in the financial statements during 2005 relate to the expense associated with restricted stock awards. As of December 31, 2007, there was $20.7 million of total unrecognized compensation cost, net of estimated forfeitures, related to unvested share-based compensation arrangements.
