Comcast and NBC Universal possible Joint Venture

Comcast, the largest U.S. cable-television company by subscriptions is in talks to acquire GE's NBC Universal. NBC Universal, is an operator of broadcast network, film studio, theme parks, and cable channels including USA, CNBC, MSNBC and Bravo, and would transfer $12 billion in debt

NBC Universal had recently been one of the most profitable units of the company. But with a downturn in advertising in the last year, the television and movie parts of the company reported a decline of 41 percent in profit. The plan hinges on a decision by Vivendi SA to sell its 20 percent stake in NBC Universal. If this joint venture goes through, it will augment and solidify Comcast position as a market leader in cable entertainment. Marcus.tan.yi.wei 13:58, October 1, 2009 (PDT)
