"Craft Brewers Alliance, Inc (CBAI), headquartered in Portland, Oregon is a leading brewer of high quality hand crafted beers in the United States. CBAI offers a diverse portfolio of award-winning products from The Redhook Ale Brewery of Woodinville, Washington and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Widmer Brothers Brewing Company of Portland, Oregon, Kona Brewing Company of Kailua Kona, Hawaii and Goose Island Beer Company of Chicago, Illinois. Most of our 31 beers are distributed regionally and a few of our more prominent beers can be found nationally. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by for a cold pint of beer in one of our onsite pubs, browse our retail shops for some new gear or take a guided tour of our state of the art breweries. If you’re not able to stop by in person, please visit each brewery’s website via the Breweries page to learn more about our beers, play exciting games and find out what we’re up to at each of our breweries."(craftbrewers.com)
On a tour of the brewery, you'll notice that the employees sport a culture of wearing jeans and polo shirts (a bit laid back). Touring their NH brewery costs $1 and you see their impressive automated brewing system. This allows them to brew many batches as some Budweiser and the other big boys do, but they are still a craft brewer. When you are on the you notice that they are not slowed by anything in manufacturing, but are slowed by sales and getting the product out the door.
This company has many insiders who used to work for the company. A-B, who owns roughly 30% of this company, has one seat on the board. There are a few from the original widmer brothers brewing and a couple from Red Hook. Kona (20%) and Goose island (~40%) are companies that Craft Brewers Alliance owns equity stakes in. This data can be found in the Dec 31, 2008 10-k report.
