I’m not going to step into a market on a Friday before a long weekend, but my best guess is that at 1:10 EST we are about at the lows for the day. We’re hitting the 20 DMAs on QQQQ, DIA, SPY and IWM.  The QQQQs are trading just below the 20...
The Technical Take  Jan 14  Comment
It has been many months since I have looked at the key price levels on the ETF's that represent the major market indices. This used to be a regular feature back in the early days of this rally. I have recently renewed my interest in this...

Today was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.  My DIA December 102 call options were assigned which meant I bought 400 shares of DIA at 102 and took a full profit on that leg of the option spread.  That left me short 400 shares of...

I'm still mostly in cash in my account with the following options still losing time value each day.  I'm short all of them except for the DIA 103 calls I used to hedge my short DIA 102 calls. -4 DIA December 102 Calls (DIALX) 4 DIA...

The market feels a bit top heavy, and the price action on the charts is saying the same thing.

I'm not on vacation, just watching the sideways action in the markets and can't seem to find anything I want to trade on or invest in.  After I opened my DIA position last week I saw it dip close to where I wanted, but then it came back up...

After I sold the DIA bear call spread on Tuesday I quickly started to lose my patience, but didn't panic.  I kept charting (throughout the day, all day) and although DIA (and the Dow) kept inching its way to new highs it fell quickly soon after...

A few weeks ago I saw an opportunity to sell a deep in the money put spread on MON for very little out of pocket.  I didn't pull the trigger (and still don't know why) and saw MON gain $15 over the next few weeks.  I would've made around...

As another calendar month has ended, we are computing the correlations for hundreds of stocks. We have found some very interesting facts with DIA and SPY. These is what has happened with the correlations between SPY and IWM/XLF/DIA throughout...

The broader market is becoming unstable and looks like it could have more of a pullback this week.

DIAMONDS Trust Series I (DIA)

DIAMONDS Trust Series I (DIA), commonly known as "diamonds" is a Unit Investment Trust (UIT) that represents the thirty (30) stocks that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average and closely emulates the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index.

The DIA is really an ETF that tracks the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The DIA tracks the Dow very closely. In fact the only difference is the decimal point placement in the prices. For example if the DJIA is at 8112, the DIA will be 81.12

You can trade your views on the DIA by buying options on this instrument. If you are bullish the Dow, you can buy Call options, and if bearish, you can buy put options.

The options on this symbol are very liquid so you will have no problems getting in and out.
