Options can be a valuable instrument for enhancing an investor's returns. Option investing must be done strategically or the risks and costs outweigh the benefits. The two strategies are like are the simplest ones: covered call and...
Chart Analysis  Nov 12  Comment
I charted the Dow Jones ETF (NYSE: DIA) this morning within the first half hour of the market opening when it was trading at $103.13.  The first glaring line I drew was the trend line of higher highs.  DIA bumped up against it yesterday and then...

I’m hoping the employment report gives us a better handle on market direction. Going into the week, I thought the easier trading direction would be down if the dollar broke above its 50-day SMA. With that dollar continuing to drop, it now looks...

Scared bulls yesterday, scared bears today - just a couple of reasons why it's good to be not bullish - not bearish - and not biased! Let's look at a couple of sectors and the ETF for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) for clues on whether...

Even with the big news, the market still remains contained. DIA has not taken out $100, the QQQQs have not yet taken out resistance at $43.50 and FXI is trying to make a new high but hasn't done so yet. I'm still just focusing on specific...

This amazing stock rally of 2009 continues. The headlines say "Dow Jones closes at 12-month high." However, there is a problem: volume is disappearing. Volume Friday was the lowest all year. Please check the volume on the charts below on SPY, IWM,...

The S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average are commonly used to measure the performance of U.S. stocks, but the disparity in the benchmarks’ returns this year during the powerful rally highlights their different approaches to...

The other day, money manager Neil Hennessy provoked outrage, OUTRAGE I say, when he suggested that the Dow Jones Industrial Average would double in ten years. People went apoplectic, judging by the comments below that video. I'm defending his...

DIAMONDS Trust Series I (DIA)

DIAMONDS Trust Series I (DIA), commonly known as "diamonds" is a Unit Investment Trust (UIT) that represents the thirty (30) stocks that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average and closely emulates the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index.

The DIA is really an ETF that tracks the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The DIA tracks the Dow very closely. In fact the only difference is the decimal point placement in the prices. For example if the DJIA is at 8112, the DIA will be 81.12

You can trade your views on the DIA by buying options on this instrument. If you are bullish the Dow, you can buy Call options, and if bearish, you can buy put options.

The options on this symbol are very liquid so you will have no problems getting in and out.
