Chamberlain College of Nursing Appoints Susan King as Chicago Campus President and Patrick Robinson to Dean of Undergraduate Curriculum and Instruction

Chamberlain College of Nursing has announced the appointment of Susan King, MBA, MSN, RN, as president of its Chicago campus. King has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including practice, executive management and instruction. In her new role, she will oversee implementation of the curriculum, delivery of student services, growth and development of regional clinical partnerships and management of the day-to-day operations for Chamberlain’s Chicago campus.

King succeeds Patrick Robinson, PhD, MSN, RN, ACRN, who served as the Chicago campus president since its opening in 2010. Dr. Robinson is joining Chamberlain’s national academics team, assuming the position of dean of undergraduate curriculum and instruction. In his new role, Dr. Robinson will be responsible for the baccalaureate and associate degree curricula and will be working with Richard Cowling, PhD, RN, APRN-BC, AHN-BC, FAAN, vice president of academic affairs, to further enhance Chamberlain’s undergraduate academic programs.

Previously, King served as the dean of academic operations at Chamberlain’s Addison, Ill. campus. Prior to her arrival at Chamberlain, King served as associate vice president of Virginia Hospital Center’s Patient Care Services and Emergency Response in Arlington, Va., where she was responsible for consulting and developing marketing plans for hospital initiatives and managing the budget.

King is a respected expert in critical care, emergency medicine and evidence-based healthcare initiatives. Her tenure in nursing includes overseeing an international clinical trial with Cornell University and delivering the keynote address at the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program Conference in 2006, which was attended by world renowned cancer specialists. King graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Bowie State University. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree and Master of Business Administration degree from University of Phoenix. King is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from University of Phoenix.

Dr. Robinson has more than 20 years of professional nursing experience as a clinician, researcher, educator and administrator. Prior to arriving at Chamberlain, Dr. Robinson was a professor and department chair at the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Robinson is a national leader in the HIV/AIDS nursing community and recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Nurses in AIDS Care for his continued efforts to promote health and welfare for individuals living with HIV.

Dr. Robinson holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in nursing from Indiana University as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from Loyola University Chicago. He completed a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in biobehavioral nursing research at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Nursing.
