Our business may be adversely impacted by our recall of certain pet food and pet snacks products initiated in March 2007. Beginning with the pet food recall announced by Menu Foods, Inc. in March 2007, many major pet food manufacturers, including Del Monte, announced recalls of select products. The items impacted by our recall represented approximately 2% of our fiscal 2007 pet products list sales, which approximates gross sales. If in the future consumers forego purchasing our pet products that were subject to recall, our sales would suffer and our results of operations would be adversely affected. We may incur additional expense in order to reassure consumers regarding the safety of our products or to regain their loyalty. Additionally, in connection with the recall, we experienced processing and re-work costs and will continue to incur these other expenses (including product liability claims), which may be subject to restrictions, limitations and caps or disagreements regarding insurance coverage of such matters. |
