Digital River Enables Merchants to Directly Market, Sell and Distribute Products through Windows 8 Metro Style Apps

Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV), the revenue growth experts in global cloud commerce, announced the expansion of its App Practice™ commerce suite. Designed to take advantage of Windows 8 and Windows Metro style design capabilities, the enhanced suite includes a new customizable set of commerce and digital marketing solutions that enable merchants to directly market, sell and distribute their products through Metro style apps available in the Windows Store. The App Practice solutions for Windows 8 Release Preview range from Metro style shopping apps, in-app monetization and digital marketing to free trials and freemium optimization. Digital River’s App Practice solutions are based on direct-to-buyer monetization models that can help companies strengthen their customer relationships and increase the lifetime value of their buyers.

“From new revenue streams and distribution channels to stronger direct-to-buyer relationships, we fully intend to lead online merchants in taking advantage of the commerce opportunities surrounding the next operating system launch from Microsoft,” said Joel Ronning, Digital River’s CEO. “With our latest release of the App Practice, we will continue our long history of support behind Microsoft system upgrades. We are coupling Digital River’s proven app monetization technology and global commerce expertise to help support the deployment of Windows 8 and continue driving our client’s online revenue growth.”

“We are excited that Digital River is releasing its commerce suite on Windows 8, helping merchants find new ways to monetize their products within apps available in the Windows Store,” said John Richards, senior director, Windows partners and developers at Microsoft Corp. “This is a great example of the commerce flexibility we encourage in Windows 8, allowing Digital River’s global portfolio of online merchants to tap into the Windows Store opportunity.”

The new App Practice suite for Windows 8 Release Preview will be delivered as a part of Digital River’s flagship Global Commerce™ enterprise system. The suite will offer a variety of monetization solutions in custom configurations – all geared to support the global sale and distribution of physical and digital goods. Some of the solutions include:

  • Windows 8 Metro style shopping apps: White-labeled shopping apps that help enable online merchants to seamlessly extend product catalogs directly to their consumers via their connected devices;
  • App Lifecycle Monetization: Consulting and commerce services, including subscriptions and in-app purchases, that will drive the online sale and distribution of digital and physical products;
  • Free Trial and Freemium App Optimization: A marketing service that will leverage and optimize the use of free trials and freemiums to increase conversions to full-priced apps and add-on services; and
  • Digital Marketing Services: Customer acquisition and retention marketing programs, such as in-app advertising, that will be used to drive online traffic, convert buyers and extend lifetime value.

“Built into the App Practice are the global monetization tools and commerce expertise companies need to deliver on their buyer’s growing preference for anytime, anywhere and any way shopping experiences,” said Mary Suddendorf, vice president of product marketing at Digital River. “With the proliferation of connected devices, owning the customer relationship is more important than ever before – and Digital River has the solutions to help companies capitalize on this accelerating market shift.”
