The one bit of silver lining in a dark cloud of financial news is the fall of oil prices. Crude prices are down 40% from their record high of $145 in July 2008, and they fell below $80 in today's trading in London. Lower oil prices is good news for the companies in the Dow, as their costs will decline and earnings will improve. Its also good news for consumers who will see some discretionary income freed up, as they won't have to spend as much at the gas station. Of course, this is just a single bright spot among many depressing macroeconomic fundamentals...but its a start.
