October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and dressbarn locations are kicking off a campaign dedicated to continue fundraising for breast cancer research.
Beginning October 1st, all dressbarn stores will allow customers to "adopt" Biscuit, a stuffed plush dog, for $5; the entire net profit of $2 for each one sold will be donated to the American Cancer Society to support local and national breast cancer initiatives . The campaign will continue through October 31, while supplies last.
"We at dressbarn feel that it's important to give back to the community, and cancer is something that affects the lives of so many people in our own neighborhoods – whether they have suffered from the disease or know someone who has been affected by the disease," said Vivian Behrens, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of dressbarn inc. "With that being said, we look forward to kicking off this campaign."
The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates that by the end of the year there will be 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 40,170 deaths from breast cancer. According to the Society's website, other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the country. And, it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.
dressbarn's most recent effort is part of the company's continued partnership with ACS. dressbarn also sponsors annual Relay For Life events where groups walk or run laps to fight against cancer. "We are proud to say that we've worked closely with the American Cancer Society since 2002, and we are determined to continue to raise the bar for participation and contributions moving forward," said dressbarn President and CEO David R. Jaffe.
Behrens added, "With the support of our customers, we know that we will be able to raise additional money for the American Cancer Society, and we hope our contributions will lead to a cure.” Together, with customers and Associates, dressbarn inc., has proudly contributed over $5 million to the American Cancer Society for the fight against cancer.
