Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) involves itself in the various facets of network infrastructure. It builds and sells the hardware neccesary for a smooth running automation system - such as control modules and routers and streamlines related software products - such as its "LNS Network Operating System" which acts as a central hub for a network, allowing the user to monitor and design existing network infrastructure components. Honeywell, Siemens and even McDonald's are among the many publicly traded companies that use Echelon's products to help their energy systems run in a smooth and efficient manner.
