Empresa Nacional de Electricidad de Chile S.A. (EOC), or Endesa-Chile, is a unit of Enersis, the Latin American arm of Spanish energy company, Endesa. The company belonged to the Chilean government until 1989, when it was privatized in a series of public offerings. Enersis maintains an equity stake of roughly 60% in Endesa-Chile. Endesa-Chile is a leading power generator and distributor of electricity in Chile, which accounts for 40% of the company's operating income. Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil each contribute 33%, 9%, 14%, and 4%, respectively, of its remaining operating income. Endesa-Chile has 13 hydroelectric plants, which have a net generating capacity of 2,889 megawatts (MW), and eight coal-, oil-, and gas-fired plants with a net generating capacity of 1,036 MW. Currently, Endesa represents 19% of the total installed capacity of Colombia, 22% of Peru, 38% of Chile, 1% of Brazil, and 15% of Argentina. Endesa's entire business in South America has a total generation capacity of 12,332.8 MW divided among 46 different plants, as follows:
