Emulex Announces Collaboration with IBM to Deliver Industry-Leading Storage and Networking Solutions

Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it has entered into a technology agreement with IBM to deliver industry-leading storage and networking solutions, including 10Gb/s Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs) and 16Gb/s Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) for the entire IBM Power Systems product line.

“IBM Power Systems is committed to providing customers with servers that are optimized for virtualization and deliver the highest levels of availability, so that IT managers can keep up with the never-ending demand for higher-speed storage and networking applications in the data center,” said Kelvin Hawkins, vice president, Power Systems Development, IBM. “IBM and Emulex have been collaborating for more than ten years to deliver industry-leading solutions that meet our customers’ wide range of I/O connectivity needs.”

Emulex connectivity solutions are optimized for virtualized server environments, allowing customers to achieve higher consolidation ratios, thereby lowering power requirements and giving customers a reason to invest in their IT infrastructures, even during challenging economic times. Emulex’s advanced virtualization features combined with the IBM Power platform, PowerVMTM virtualization technology and the IBM AIX® operating system enable data center customers to virtualize enterprise applications with uncompromised performance and scalability.

“This announcement builds upon the continued strength of Emulex’s ongoing relationship with IBM and speaks to our ongoing joint development work on innovative virtualization capabilities and emerging converged networking solutions,” said Jeff Benck, executive vice president and chief operations officer, Emulex. “With two announced 10Gb/s Ethernet NIC design wins with IBM and the first 16Gb/s Fibre Channel design win in the industry, Emulex is clearly expanding its footprint in the data center, while remaining committed to its heritage of delivering high-performance, reliable storage area network (SAN) connectivity.”

On August 27, 2009, Emulex announced that it is providing a Virtual Fabric Adapter based on its OneConnect™ Universal Converged Network Adapter (UCNA) architecture for flexible Ethernet network connectivity in IBM BladeCenter HS22 blade servers. Emulex also announced, on August 24, 2009, that it signed a multi-year, cross licensing patent agreement with IBM, enabling Emulex to accelerate the integration of its OneConnect UCNA architecture within IBM platforms. Emulex has the largest installed base of Fibre Channel HBAs in IBM SANs worldwide.
