Ford Motor Company will put Southern California’s car culture into high gear at the 3rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, scheduled June 22-24, 2012, at the OC Fair and Events Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. Automotive enthusiasts and Ford fans will have a rare opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a number of elite Ford rides, including a new Mustang, Focus or Fiesta on a closed circuit during the three-day auction. Southern California visitors can also check out the 2013 Ford Focus ST and Ford Shelby GT500 for the first time together in California since the two were unveiled earlier this year.

“The Barrett-Jackson Orange County Auction is one of the highlights of summer in Southern California, and people travel from across the country to enjoy the cool cars, auction action and beautiful weather,” said Steve Ling, North America Car Marketing Manager at Ford. “It’s the perfect setting to give West Coast visitors a chance to see some of our most talked about products, including the 2013 MY Ford Focus ST and 662 horsepower Ford Shelby GT500.”
Debuting for the first time in California, the Focus ST is an incredible piece of technology that features a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with direct injection, variable intake and exhaust timing and center-exit exhaust pipes. Ford gave this feisty racer 18-inch wheels with summer compound tires, a variable ratio steering rack and put in a six-speed manual transmission for added performance. Generating up to 252 horsepower, the Focus’ quick-off-the-line acceleration translates to high-end performance for consumers.
Another Ford vehicle that raises the bar high on performance by delivering a test track top speed of 200 mph is the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. The 5.8-liter V8 aluminum-block engine is the most powerful production V8 in the world. Nearly every part of the powertrain was optimized for producing additional power, including a new supercharger, new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber driveshaft and an upgraded clutch, transmission and axle. The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 will be built at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.
“Both the Focus ST and GT500 give consumers superior agility on tough corners and a big horsepower shot of adrenaline,” added Ling. “The high performance offers customers a sleek and sexy look with a powerful engine that roars every time you turn on the ignition switch. We can’t wait to hear the feedback from the OC auction visitors about the latest automobiles from Ford.”
The Shelby, Focus ST, as well as all other new Ford vehicles, are available through local Southern California dealers. Those interested in a test drive or seeing a new or quality pre-owned Ford vehicle can click on the link to find their local dealership.
