This excerpt taken from the GIS 10-Q filed Sep 19, 2007.
effective income tax rate for the first quarter of fiscal 2008 was 32.8 percent compared to 35.8 percent for the first quarter of fiscal 2007. The 3.0 percentage point decrease is primarily due to discrete foreign tax credits in the first quarter of $7.2 million and a 1.1 percentage point increase in foreign and other tax credits. We also had a beneficial discrete tax impact of $7.0 million relating to international deferred foreign income taxes resulting from tax rate changes that were largely offset by a similar adjustment to deferred state income taxes from tax rate changes in Michigan.
